Emily Helft
Director of Disability Services

Emily earned her Bachelors in Psychology from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts before earning both her Masters and additional Educational Specialist degree from the College of William and Mary, where she intensely focused on psycho-educational evaluation, data-based decision making, and supporting students with disabilities. After working in public school systems in the greater Richmond area as a school psychologist primarily focused on assessment and evaluation, she transitioned into higher education disability and accessibility support at VCU. Her initial focus was on assistive technology and accessible print materials, but then branched into case management and the creation of a Learning Specialist Program geared toward academic skills development for students with disabilities. At the University of Richmond, Emily oversees the disability accommodation process for students, in addition to serving as a campus partner championing accessibility and educating the campus community on disability.

While she was born in Vermont and raised in upstate New York, she has found a wonderful home in the vibrant city of Richmond.
